The dawn of July 1,1971 was indeed bright and pleasant. But the Sun seemed to shine with greater glory on the Bangalore High School premises at Chamarajpet. For, that was the day the B.H.S. Junior college came into being. A chain of events which began on the 5th of May 1971 with the Managing Committee applying for permission to start a junior college culminated on 1st July when a committee headed by Dr.H.Narasimhaiah inspected the premises and finally gave its assent. So began the history of what was to become a leading Pre-University College in the state. Sri.K.Lakshminarayana Rao had the privilege of becoming the first Principal of the College. An overwhelming public response saw nearly two hundred students enrolling themselves in three different disciplines - Science, Arts and Commerce. The first student to be admitted was Krishna Reddy.
What set apart the new junior college was its high degree of discipline coupled with a band of highly motivated teaching staff. With the gradual increase in strength, it became inevitable that the composite college be bifurcated from the Bangalore High School. Consequently, independent status was accorded in September 1973. If 1971-1981 was a decade of establishment and growth, 1981-1991 was a decade of consolidation and expansion. As the college grew from strength to strength, the need for a separate building was acutely felt. As a result, the college was shifted to its new premises in Jayanagar and renamed as Vijaya Pre-University college.
